The 2025 Priory Boys soccer season was a journey marked by strong performances, individual brilliance, and team growth. While the team fell short of advancing in the state tournament, their overall season showed clear progress and promise for the future. As someone who closely followed the team throughout the year, I want to share a detailed look at their stats, key players, and what made this season stand out.
Solid Defense Anchored by Goalkeepers
Priory’s defense was a backbone of their success this season, largely thanks to the efforts of their two varsity goalies, Aidan Blatz and Will Hoffman.
Aidan Blatz played 395 minutes, maintaining a perfect win record with 2 wins and no losses or ties. He posted an impressive goals-against average (GAA) of 0.81 and saved 31 shots with an 88.6% save percentage. Blatz also recorded a shutout, showing his ability to keep the net clean when called upon.
Will Hoffman was the workhorse goalie, logging 1,749 minutes with 15 wins and 9 losses. His GAA was a solid 0.91, and he saved 81 shots with an 80.2% save percentage. Hoffman also earned 7 shutouts, highlighting his consistency and reliability throughout the season.
Together, these two goalies provided Priory with a strong last line of defense. Their combined efforts helped keep the team competitive in tight matches and gave the outfield players confidence to push forward.
Offensive Firepower and Playmaking
Priory’s offense was led by a group of skilled players who contributed both goals and assists, creating a dynamic and balanced attack.
Sean Kaveney was the standout offensive player, leading the team with 26 goals and 17 assists for a total of 69 points. His ability to find the back of the net and set up teammates made him a constant threat.
Jake McAtee also made a huge impact with 22 goals and 5 assists, totaling 49 points. His scoring prowess helped keep the pressure on opponents.
Charlie Cusumano contributed 7 goals and 6 assists, adding 20 points, while Brendan Top matched that point total with 8 goals and 4 assists.
Jack Mantovani was a key playmaker with 13 assists and 1 goal, showing his vision and passing skills.
Raphi Clark added 2 goals and an impressive 7 assists, totaling 11 points, while Colton Miller scored 6 goals and 1 assist for 13 points.
This spread of scoring and assists shows that Priory’s offense was not reliant on just one player. Multiple athletes stepped up to create chances and finish them, making the team harder to defend against.
Team Discipline and Sportsmanship
Throughout the season, Priory maintained a clean disciplinary record. The stats show zero red cards and very few fouls committed by key players. This discipline helped the team avoid unnecessary suspensions and kept their focus on playing quality soccer.
Key Moments and Turning Points
Several games defined Priory’s season. The goalkeepers’ shutouts in critical matches gave the team momentum, while clutch goals from Sean Kaveney and Jake McAtee often turned the tide in close contests. The team’s ability to come together in tight situations was a sign of growing maturity.
What the Season Means for Priory Soccer
Despite the disappointment of exiting the state tournament earlier than hoped, the 2025 season was a breakthrough in many ways:
The goalkeepers showed they can perform under pressure.
The offense demonstrated depth and creativity.
The team played with discipline and heart.
Younger players gained valuable experience for the future.
These elements set a strong foundation for the coming years. With continued development and focus, Priory Boys soccer is positioned to make deeper runs in future tournaments.
Looking Ahead
The lessons from this season will guide the team as they prepare for 2026. Building on the strengths of players like Kaveney, McAtee, and Hoffman, while integrating new talent, will be key. The coaching staff’s ability to nurture this growth will determine how far Priory can go next year.
For fans and supporters, this season was a reminder of the team’s potential and the excitement that Priory soccer brings to the community. The future looks bright.
